Using Tools to Support Connected Learning

As I read through Chapter 5, I quickly learned that a blog is not just a blog. There are the tools for documenting and archiving: Social Benchmarking, Delicious and Diigo. Yesterday, Delicious was a description of my favorite food, not a popular website for benchmarking and tagging websites. Diigo is not an Australian animal. Low and behold, it is a social bookmarking community, similar to Delicious but with enhanced features. My lovely burger has now turned gourmet.

There are the tools for Connecting and Collaborating: Blogs (that’s us), Edublog, RSS readers, Google reader, Podcasts, and Podomatic. We can’t forget our popular microblogs which includes Twitter. Interesting, we are a very chatty world. Eager to share our views, news, and reaching out our “hands” in order to feed our curiosity no matter the form. We can write, read, listen and/or partake. They are there for expanding not only our minds but to increase online presence through network and collaboration.

So many venues, so little time.  Always remember who you are, what you would like to accomplish, how do you want your online presence to represent you? Because, as the author mentioned in Managing Your Online Reputation, ALL of us can Google our names.

  1. I enjoyed reading your post! I like how you mentioned that we are a very "chatty" world with so much to say. This is humorous but very true in today's society! How do you think this connection will affect you in your future career?

  2. Hi Beatrice, I liked how you ended your blog. It is true that whenever posting online a person should be thinking about how they want to be viewed as a person. Anything that is written online will be there forever so if a person posts something inappropriate, it will most likely catch up to them in the future. Do you also find this to be true?

  3. Awesome post Beatrice! I like how you talked about the different venues of the blog and how the choice depends on how they want to be viewed as a person! I think it makes an excellent connection. How would you categorize what apps to use based on how you want your online presence to be?
