Chapter 4: Building a Collaborative Culture

Image
I’m a Finance major but also employed within Finance. Easy task? No, not at all. What I’ve learned through my work experience and educational endeavor, strong team work. Managers rely heavily on an employee who have individual strengths but can also be progressive within a team. Trust, congeniality, and collegiality are key factors necessary at your place of employment, school and online communities.                               I found in order to establish and sustain a strong relationship online presence is to maintain a high level of integrity and also by just being me.   Your personality will shine through when corresponding with online partnerships.   Be kind, aware and respectful of words. We’ve all experienced that text message that went all wrong. Remember, these are co-collaborators, remind yourself of the line in the sand.    Connected learners hav...

Using Tools to Support Connected Learning

Image
As I read through Chapter 5, I quickly learned that a blog is not just a blog. There are the tools for documenting and archiving: Social Benchmarking, Delicious and Diigo. Yesterday, Delicious was a description of my favorite food, not a popular website for benchmarking and tagging websites. Diigo is not an Australian animal. Low and behold, it is a social bookmarking community, similar to Delicious but with enhanced features. My lovely burger has now turned gourmet. There are the tools for Connecting and Collaborating: Blogs (that’s us), Edublog, RSS readers, Google reader, Podcasts, and Podomatic. We can’t forget our popular microblogs which includes Twitter. Interesting, we are a very chatty world. Eager to share our views, news, and reaching out our “hands” in order to feed our curiosity no matter the form. We can write, read, listen and/or partake. They are there for expanding not only our minds but to increase online presence through network and collaboration. So m...

App Smackdown - Square Payment Processing

Image
Square Payment Processing is an easy and convenient way to provide customers with a mobile option for purchases. The app can be accessed by phone or via web. By opening an account and utilizing the appropriate payment square, purchases can begin. The app cannot only keep track of purchases, but can display graphs and invoicing, just to name a few. Below is a true story of how the Square Payment Processing app was used:       Colleen is a clay fanatic and spends her free time creating beautiful, glazed, gallery worthy pots, plates, bowls, cups, and vases. An art gallery gift shop can charge between 10% - 50% commission, depending on the gallery. The art gallery gift shop can use Square Payment Processing Point of Sale software to keep track of items sold, commission, employee time keeping and inventory.         Along with the gallery gift shop, Colleen decided to expand and sell her product at other venues, such as: ...

Chapter 6 Building Your Connected Learning Community

Image
Building a strong team, reliable, dependable and trustworthy. I think that is something we all strive to achieve both professionally and personally. This is part of building our network “house”, relying on the good bones. The real power of the social web is revealed when      you have a plan and a purpose for how you’ll build your network, reap its benefits, and then apply the knowledge you gain. I found interesting the chapter isn’t about resting on your laurels. It encourages, experimenting with different social venues but to also to use caution in the process. What do you want to learn? Who should you follow? I also found this was relatable to friendships, personally or professionally. Who do you want in your social circle? Choosing the wrong co-worker friend, can be professional suicide. The saying, “guilty by association”, extends to so many levels. This reminds us that growing and nurturing a network means engaging in conversation in safe and et...
