Chapter 4: Building a Collaborative Culture

I’m a Finance major but also employed within Finance. Easy task? No, not at all. What I’ve learned through my work experience and educational endeavor, strong team work. Managers rely heavily on an employee who have individual strengths but can also be progressive within a team. Trust, congeniality, and collegiality are key factors necessary at your place of employment, school and online communities.
I found in order to establish and sustain a strong relationship online presence is to maintain a high level of integrity and also by just being me.  Your personality will shine through when corresponding with online partnerships.  Be kind, aware and respectful of words. We’ve all experienced that text message that went all wrong. Remember, these are co-collaborators, remind yourself of the line in the sand.

Connected learners have to work harder to establish trust. In face-to-face interactions we get to know people over time through casual interactions. In online spaces, we can have many of the same casual interactions if we think through how to make them happen. Intentional trusts have the same trust-building effect as those that occur naturally. Norms of etiquette provides us with boundaries within which acceptable behavior occurs and allows trust to develop.

  1. I enjoyed reading your post especially because you're a finance major who is in the finance field! I am a finance major as well and I can definitely see how this connected team work is very important. What aspects of your job are centered around teamwork and what aspects are more individualistic?

    1. I work within a team to ensure that certain processes are adhered. Individually, I'm expected to lead my team, create and analyze reporting and develop new processes. These are just a few. To stand out from the crowd, I specialize in certain areas within the department that are catered to my specific strengths and experience. What is your future Finance goal?
