Chapter 2: Developing a Connected Learning Model

Chapter 2, Developing a Connected Learning Model, describes the importance of a professional learning community. The connectivity of this community increases knowledge, shared resources, and heightened communication to a global scale. The three prongs of connected learning communities follow the outline: method, purpose, structure and focus.  The imperatives within this outline sustain the professional infrastructure.

The interjection of digital communication within the professional environment has grown expediential bringing the cultivation of diversity within the work environment. Expanding the professional network  to including diversity of experience and thought can lead to the innovative changes. Cross culture and shared resources allow the professional to experience variety of untapped resource bases. New ideas, learning methodologies and intertwined goals can be established through this seemingly simplistic shared venue. There is strength in numbers.

I have spent the better part of my life within the professional environment. It is hard to comprehend that less than 20 years ago; digital communities were practically non-existent. Recalling the time and effort conducting research, the trials and errors of being just human and hitting the proverbial “brick wall”.  From past to present, businesses that have embraced this new digital atmosphere have seen a direct impact and correlation to their growth.

  1. I agree when you said that digital atmospheres have positively impacted businesses. Companies that have accessible website services are now flourishing. However, companies that do not conform to the new digital age and remain analog are not as successful. How do you think owners of small business could be convinced to go digital?

  2. I agree with your statement “strength in numbers”, as well as the fact that technology has basically revolutionized the way businesses operate. One field that I think benefited from this advancement is the stock exchange. It is crazy to think that the intense volume of traffic that there is today on the stock exchange was at one point all done on pen, paper, and telephone. There is no doubt that efficiency, accuracy, and time relay has improved with the implementation of digital communities. What other field would you consider highly impacted?

  4. Your article puts in perspective how fast we are advancing. With so many people connecting digitally we have “strength in numbers” as you said. With so many people connecting I too believe that online communication will strengthen the platform for innovation. Do you believe that there are enough professional networks available or is this something that is still being developed?
